  1.  What is " an Abstract " ?

Answer:
An abstract is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review, conference proceeding or any in-depth analysis of a particular subject or discipline, and is often used to help the reader quickly ascertain the paper's purpose. When used, an abstract always appears at the beginning of a manuscript, acting as the point-of-entry for any given scientific paper or patent application. Abstraction and indexing services are available for a number of academic disciplines, aimed at compiling a body of literature for that particular subject.

  1.  What is " a full-text article " ?

Answer:

In computerized databases, the complete article rather than just a citation or abstract. In any sources databases, move from the record screen to the full text of an article by entering the command DIT. A full-text article in any sources databases can be printed, sent to your email address, or saved to disk.

  1.  what is your search technique(s) When you are doing your homework or assignment?

Answer:

Before you search, make a plan!

Putting together a search is a three-step process.

Identify your concepts
When planning your search, break down your topic into its separate concepts. Let's say you're interested in the effects of global warming on crops. In this case, you have two concepts: GLOBAL WARMING and CROPS.

Make a list of search terms for each concept
Once you have identified your concepts, list the terms which describe each concept. Some concepts may have only one term, while others may have many.

global warming
greenhouse effect
greenhouse gases
climate change

These lists are a suggestion. Depending on the focus of your search, there may be other terms more suited to what you're looking for.
Specify the logical relationships among your search terms
Once you know the words you want to search, you need to establish the logical relationships among them using Boolean logic: AND, OR, NOT.
To keep things simple, you don't need to use all the words you've compiled in a single search. The words are there to help you experiment with different searches until you find what you want.

The automobile as we know it was not invented in a single day by a single inventor. The history of the automobile reflects an evolution that took place worldwide. It is estimated that over 100,000 patents created the modern automobile. However, we can point to the many firsts that occurred along the way. Starting with the first theoretical plans for a motor vehicle that had been drawn up by both Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton.

In 1769, the very first self-propelled road vehicle was a military tractor invented by French engineer and mechanic, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot (1725 - 1804). Cugnot used a steam engine to power his vehicle, built under his instructions at the Paris Arsenal by mechanic Brezin. It was used by the French Army to haul artillery at a whopping speed of 2 1/2 mph on only three wheels. The vehicle had to stop every ten to fifteen minutes to build up steam power. The steam engine and boiler were separate from the rest of the vehicle and placed in the front (see engraving above). The following year (1770), Cugnot built a steam-powered tricycle that carried four passengers.

3.What is the difference between general book and reference book?

General Book is a collection of printed material that have a different purpose for education or another things. you can find general book anywhere, in library, or in any bookstore.
but reference or a reference point, is the intensional use of one thing, a point of reference or reference state, to indicate something else. When reference is intended, what the reference points to is called the referent.
References are indicated by sounds (like onomatopoeia), pictures (like roadsigns), text (like bibliographies), indexes (by number) and objects (a wedding ring); but endless concrete and abstract methods can be used intentionally. This includes methods that intentionally hide the reference from some observers, as in cryptography.

4.When do you need to search information from the reference collection?
whenever you need any information about something, or anything.
the reference collection provide you anything what do yopu want.

Exercise 3

Why the library is important for the learning process?

1. Why the library is important for the learning process ?

Access to information and knowledge are fundamental for education and development as well as being an essential requirement for improving the quality of life for people living in regions where the population has not yet reached a high level of economic and social development. Libraries play an important role in the educational and research process. A digital library can provide access to many of the knowledge networks around the world, which is a necessary component of any research experience.
In this article, a brief introduction to the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is followed by an explanation of the setup of the joint educational MSc. programme that has been developed by these two institutes.
The digital library support in this joint programme will be described and the positive and negative experiences of the programme are summarized.
The article also provides general comments on the importance of building digital partnerships between libraries in joint educational programmes between developed and less technologically advanced countries.
